- 2 months ago I had a baby. My first baby. Yippee!! I am one lucky lady because he has slept for 10 hours before (only once, but still). And he has been known to sleep for 7 every now and again. And even his worst nights still give me 4 hour stretches! What a great baby!
- I had a horrible recovery. I was literally in my bed through my third week of recovery (retained placenta if you were wondering).
- One month ago we finally closed on a house. Yippee!
- We have five weeks to rip it all out, fix stuff, paint, put floors in, refinish cabinets, pack our apartment and move. No biggie. Ok...maybe kind of a biggie.
- Marshall's Day: Marshall usually gets up early (his alarm goes off at 5:15), goes into work and then in the early to late afternoon comes home and changes and heads out to our house in Orem to work on it till 8, 9, or 10 o'clock. If he is lucky he gets to see Ernest before he leaves for work or maybe in the middle of the day for a couple minutes. He doesn't get to eat dinner till he gets home at the end of the day. I don't think he is super disappointed about this, but it would be the worst part of my day if I were him.
- Marietta's Day: I get to sleep in a little bit longer...well sometimes. I guess my alarm is Ernest. And if my alarm goes off too early I will nurse him in bed and get a little nap in the morning. Then I get up, get ready and pack the baby up and head to my sister and her in-law's house. They have a garage which they have graciously allowed us to use to refinish kitchen cabinets. On the drive over Ernest falls asleep and I put him in a room downstairs and head out to the garage to sand until he wakes up. I feed him, feed myself, interact with him for a bit, put him down for another nap and keep sanding. When he wakes up again I feed him and we head home. Once I am home he goes down for the night, I get to cook and eat dinner alone. And then I get to work on packing our apartment.
- Sundays are the best day ever! Marshall gets to sleep in and be around when Ernest and I get up. We get to spend the entire day together and Marshall gets to interact with Ernest more! I use to make really simple meals on Sunday so that I did not have to spend all day in the kitchen, but now since Sunday is the only meal we actually eat together I try to make something a little bit nicer.
That is my crazy. It has been like that for 3 weeks and will be like that this week and next week. Don't get me wrong. I am not complaining, simple explaining what it is like. I am so so grateful for little Ernest. Love that kid so much! And I am so grateful that we are able to buy a home, and that we can fix it up before we move in (which will be Nov. 30th whether we are ready or not). I am so grateful for a hard working husband who would do anything to get a home ready for his family. In truth I have so much to be grateful for. So no, I am not complaining. This is just how it is. It is hard, it is exhausting, and it is wonderful! It is times like these that really make you appreciate the times when you just get to be home and eat dinner together. Ah, the simple things really do make life the best.
We also owe a big shout out to all the people that have been helping us! We knew it was going to be a lot of work to get the house ready for us to move in by Nov. 30th, and while we are not there yet, and are still crossing our fingers that it all gets done, there is no way we would even be close if it weren't for all the people that have come and helped us. I have realized that asking for help makes me feel extremely vulnerable. It is reassuring to know that there are friends and family that I can count on for that help. And even though it can be scary to ask for help, it is the only way to get help! No one is going to magically show up at my door and give me what I need. More often than not the Lord will provide the help that we need when we ask. We can ask Him and we can also ask those around us.
Update (since I wrote this 2 1/2 weeks ago and never posted it!): We moved! The house isn't done... But we are living in it. We have no kitchen, and some places still don't have a floor. The master bed and bath hasn't even been started, but that's ok because the guest bedroom is much bigger than our last bedroom anyway. The day after we moved we blessed Ernest at our new ward and the. Had people over to our house for food. It was kinds, ok a lot crazy! And the only way we were able to accomplish it all was through the help of great family and friends! And now, even though we are in our new house, the craziness will continue! With no kitchen an dots of work to do we are just hoping Ernest will be a good napped and sleeper. He's currently having a moment where he only takes catnaps. Well that is unless I lay with him, which I love but it also makes it hard to get much of anything done. And that is our story... For now anyway.
